Mesa County RTPO Updates Crash Data Dashboard with 2025 Data, Urging Community-Wide Shift in Driving Culture to Prevent Roadway Fatalities
The Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office (RTPO) has officially released the comprehensive 2025 Mesa County Crash Data Report, providing key insights into traffic safety trends, high-risk corridors, and contributing factors across local roadways.
The findings are published in the newly launched 2025 Annual Crash Report, offering local residents, agencies, and regional partners an accessible view of transportation safety across the Grand Valley. To explore multi-year trends, historical comparisons, and geographic mapping, the public can also examine the interactive Mesa County Crash Data Summary Dashboard.
The data highlights ongoing regional challenges with severe and fatal crashes, reinforcing that behind every statistic is a neighbor, family member, or friend whose life was permanently altered. Mesa County RTPO utilizes this data to pinpoint high-risk corridors and target engineering, education, and enforcement countermeasures aligned with the Mesa County Safety Action Plan.
"Behind every data point is a member of our community whose life was cut short or forever altered by a preventable crash," said Tara Flaharty the Move SAFE Program Manager for the Mesa County RTPO. "Safer roadway designs and enforcement are essential, but true safety requires a fundamental shift in our community's driving culture. When we get behind the wheel, we hold the lives of our friends and neighbors in our hands. We all must slow down, eliminate distractions, drive sober, and make the conscious choice that getting there quickly will never be worth someone’s life. Reducing roadway fatalities starts with the culture we create together on the road."
Through the Move SAFE Mesa County initiative, the RTPO and local multidisciplinary safety partners are actively implementing data-driven roadway improvements, public education campaigns, and vulnerable road user protections. The agency encourages all community members to take ownership of local road safety by staying alert, yielding to pedestrians and cyclists, and never driving impaired.
