City advocates for Provincial partnership on key local priorities at AMO conference
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton attended the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa, joining municipalities and provincial representatives from August 16 to 19, 2026.
This year, Hamilton’s delegation focused on advancing priorities related to housing, health, environment, transportation, infrastructure, the economy and social assistance. The AMO conference is a vital platform for City officials to connect directly with provincial decision-makers, address local issues and champion the investments and policy changes essential to our city.
“Hamiltonians expect all levels of government to work together to address the issues that matter most in their daily lives,” said Mayor Andrea Horwath. “At AMO, we brought forward clear priorities focused on getting more housing built, improving access to health and mental health supports, investing in the infrastructure our growing city needs, protecting our environment, while creating more economic opportunities. Strong provincial partnership is essential to moving this work forward and delivering real, lasting benefits across our community.”
Mayor Horwath was joined by City Councillors Craig Cassar, Tammy Hwang, Cameron Kroetsch, Mike Spadafora and senior-level staff. Mayor Horwath attended the Ontario Big City Mayors meeting on August 16 and led six delegation meetings with provincial Ministers on August 17 and 18. The delegation meetings were with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Children and Community and Social Services.
Mayor Horwath and Councillor Kroetsch also participated in a panel discussion titled “Resilience in the Age of Disruption.” The panel provided an opportunity for the City to share its experience responding to recent tariffs and trade disruptions, advancing a Downtown Revitalization Strategy and using data to make better decisions and improve outcomes.
“The City is focused on delivering the services and infrastructure residents rely on today while planning responsibly for Hamilton’s long-term growth and resilience,” said Marnie Cluckie, City Manager. “Strong provincial partnership helps us move critical projects forward, respond to pressures facing our community and make the investments needed to support a growing Hamilton.”
The City of Hamilton thanks AMO for hosting the annual conference and the Province of Ontario for the opportunity to present Hamilton’s priorities.
