French cultural groups criticize parliamentary delay over AI copyright bill
According to reports, SACD, a collective defending authors’ rights, issued a statement condemning what it called a “parliamentary obstruction strategy” allegedly led by some deputies from the Renaissance party.
The proposed legislation aims to introduce a presumption of use of copyrighted works by AI systems and was scheduled for debate in the National Assembly’s plenary session on Thursday.
SACD said that the filing of more than 100 amendments by several lawmakers from the Renaissance group was intended to delay and complicate the legislative process, warning it could undermine a long-awaited reform for the cultural and press sectors.
The organization also suggested that the dispute raises questions about the stated commitments of party leader Gabriel Attal, who is currently a candidate in the upcoming presidential race.
